Scents and Sensibility

August 27, 2013

Rarely do air fresheners go beyond appealing to anything but the sense of smell, but lamps by Lampe Berger are a sight to behold.

Created in 1898 to purify the air in hospital wards, over the years the lamps have been tweaked for home use. They diffuse scent softly (there are over 40 fragrances) and neutralize the air, perfect for banishing cooking and pet odours.

But it’s the pretty bottles (from $40) that caught our eye. From vintage-inspired lamps to modern, simple styles or, classic shapes adorned with a fleur-de-lis (pictured, $100), each one is a lovely addition to a room.

If you’re in the market for a collectors item (with a collectors price tag) the Art Edition 2009 (from $500) includes a dozen lamps reinterpreted by renowned designers.

And who knows, maybe a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
