Shakespeare, In Love

October 7, 2009

They say you shouldnt mess with a classic, but on a recent cultural
sojourn we stumbled upon a rare little book put out by a teeny tiny
press that gets it just right.

In Nets,
poet and visual artist Jen Bervin fashions fresh, pithy poetry out of
sonnets written by William Shakespeare. Fading out sections of his
original text, while bolding select words, Bervin builds new poems out
of the context of the classic. The small, perfect-bound book instantly
ignited our love for what we once saw in high school as only a daunting
required read.

If you can have Christmas in July, then we say make it Valentines Day in
October and gift yourself with this paper heart.
