The Yousuf Karsh
photograph is an ad for a new exhibit by one of the most renowned
portrait photographers, now on at the Glenbow
Museum.
The collection of 100 portraits was first put together in 2008 in honour
of the centenary of Karshs Birth (he died in 2002) and includes what are
considered some of the photographers favourites. Karshs extraordinary
subjects, shot in black and white, include Audrey Hepburn, Fidel Castro,
Humphrey Bogart and one of the most famous images of Winston Churchill,
hand on the hip, scowling at Karsh after the photographer had apparently
removed Churchills cigar from his mouth.
