Kangrilla Road Winemaker’s Lunch

September 27, 2012

I joined a group of winemakers at Brix
for a lunch hosted by Kangrilla
Road Winery
. This Australian star wine hails from the McLaren Vale
region, with a climate similar to the Mediterranean.

Although all the wines were exceptional, the four Shirazes were a
highlight, especially when paired with Brix’s rack of BC venison, served
with sauteed Okanagan cherries, turned potatoes, and local spinach.

Here are my tasting notes…

2009 McLaren Vale Shiraz Viognier: prunes, black currant, very spicy,
floral fragrance, French oak

2010 Devil’s Whiskers Shiraz: cherries, dark chocolate, sharp flavour

2010 Scarce Earth Project Shiraz: liquorice, spicy, very elegant

2009 Q Shiraz: black fruits, chocolate, cedar, smooth texture. The wine
was featured in the upcoming James Bond film!

All would make for great holiday wines. Look for the elegant little leaf
label.
