Amazing bubbles under $20
If you like bubbles, there are obviously excellent champagne options but
know that great alternatives also exist. I often buy Spanish Cava
because the quality/price ratio is tough to beat. My holiday purchase
will no doubt be Bistol, a bubbly fave of restaurateurs and
connoisseurs. Crede Bisol Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene 2011,
$19.10 at SAQ.
A wonderful white
Most people know wines from the Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc but for
the holidays, nothing beats a good Chenin Blanc. This rich, floral and
well-rounded wine pairs beautifully with white meat (like turkey) and
works as either an aperitif or served with the main course. I
particularly like a French classic: Savennières, a prestigious
appellation from the Loire region. Domaine FL Le Parc Savennières2007,
$23.60 at SAQ.
A great red for $25
The Massa is a must. A blend of (primarily) Sangiovese, Merlot and
Cabernet Sauvignon grants it notes of dark fruit, mocha and chocolate,
a.k.a. a guaranteed holiday hit. It was my top recommendation in my
special End of the World broadcast on CKOI, so it definitely ranks
highly in my books. Grab yours while you can: Bottles are flying off
shelves! La Massa Toscana i.g.t.2010, $25.25 at SAQ.
Bottoms up! Christine Laroche
