To mark the 50th anniversary of the Nouvelle Vaguewhen critics such as
Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut picked up cameras and took to the
streetsCinematheque
is screening some of their best work.
On the playbill are François Truffauts Shoot the Piano Player
(August 13), Eric Rohmers La Collectionneuse (August 14) and My
Night at Mauds (August 13), and Louis Malles Elevator to the
Gallows, with a score by Miles Davis, (August 20).
With its loose, daring camera work and strange narrative, Jean-Pierre
Melvilles Les Enfants Terribles, (based on the Jean Cocteau
novel) might leave you needing a stiff drink or two.
Time to bust out the Pernod.
