Fact: worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980. Fact: more than 39% of the adult population is now considered obese. Fact: 1.9 billion of the world’s population is doing insufficient exercise. It’s with these facts in mind that an award-winning technical fashion brand is launching a free online health and fitness resource: the Lorna Jane Canada Active Living Program. We chatted with founder Lorna Jane herself about the ins and outs of the program—and discovered why she’s offering it up to all Canadians, totally free. —Noa Nichol
Hi Lorna! Tell us about this new program.
The Active Living Program is designed around the practice of "move, nourish and believe." It is a complete wellness program that is simple to follow and provides weekly eating plans, workouts, recipes, resources and all the information you need to live your best life, for the rest of your life.
Why launch the program now? And why make it free?
At Lorna Jane we know that the cost of being healthy is one of the biggest excuses people use to not get started. So, we thought if we could deliver a comprehensive and easy-to-follow program with zero cost, it would be one less hurdle that people would have to overcome in their decision to put their health and fitness first. We want everyone to have access to the information they need to educate and inspire themselves to live happier and healthier lives and we hope to achieve this with the Active Living Program. We’re living in a world where global health statistics aren’t looking great. Obesity rates are rising, and lifestyle diseases are presenting in children like never before. If we want things to change then we need to educate people to make their health and fitness a priority. We need to take action and turn this around by not only providing workouts and meal guides, but also providing tools to help people build a positive mindset.
What type of information/resources will be available through this initiative?
Each week there are new plans, new workout videos, recipes, meal guides and practices. We also have additional resources that followers of the program receive to help them along the way: wellness information, tips and inspiration to stay motivated to keep going.
Who will benefit from this program?
Everyone! It’s suitable for anyone who wants to improve their overall wellbeing.
What parts of your own personality/beliefs will we see infused into the program?
It’s based on my active living philosophy and daily practice of "move, nourish and believe," so there is a lot of "me" in the program! From starting your day with meditation to the yummy smoothies and Sunday hikes, there’s a lot of what I personally do included in the program. We also work with other industry professionals who align with our values and are as passionate as we are about helping people live happier and healthier lives.
What does being the "healthiest, happiest and fittest version" of yourself look like to you?
It’s feeling strong inside and out, having a positive outlook and loving yourself for who you are. It’s a balance between being grateful and appreciating what you have, while also being motivated and inspired to go out and achieve your goals.
