4 Beauty Staples Updated

June 25, 2018

From sheet masks infused with precious ingredients to skin lasers featuring the latest tech, beauty offerings are always evolving. However, when it comes to certain staples—think toothbrushes, floss and shower caps—a refresh seems long overdue. Here, four old faithfuls from our bathroom cabinets that have finally received a long-overdue makeover. —Mackenzie Shand and Noa Nichol

string thing. If you’re anything like us, you probably start flossing twice a day after a dentist’s appointment only to have the habit taper out after a week or two. While we know flossing is an essential part of our dental hygiene, it often feels like a tedious chore. Enter Cocofloss, made to enhance your flossing experience by soothing the gums with coconut oil, providing a gentle scrub (thanks to 500-plus polyester filaments) and—move over mint—leaving a light fruity flavour in its wake.

fresh and fab. You’ve just enjoyed a coffee or a garlic-heavy meal and you’re looking for a way to freshen up on the go—but mouthwash isn’t easy to cart around, gum can feel like it simply masks the flavours and breath sprays, well, let’s just say they can stay in old-timey movies where they belong. Swish is changing the breath-freshening game with its innovative breath powder: sugar-free, it eliminates odours and optimizes the pH levels in your mouth. Simply pour, swish and you’re good to go.

cap it. Thanks to the innovation of fabulous dry shampoos, we no longer need to shampoo every day and can extend the life of a blowout. But that doesn’t mean showering is totally off the table. In the past, shower-cap options to keep hair dry consisted mainly of clear plastic numbers similar to those found in most hotel rooms. Today, though, thanks to brands like Studio Dry, you can find durable, well-constructed and totally cute caps—like this juciy-watermelon edition.

bidet yay. Rather than squirm (and think of side-by-side units—with today’s tiny condos, who has room for that?!) when the word "bidet" is uttered, consider the modern update being offered by a brand called (appropriately) Tushy. The device, which simply attaches to your toilet and, at the touch of a button, sprays your bottom clean features nozzle adustment and pressure control features to leave your tushy feeling truly clean (trust us!). Best of all: the company is dedicated to helping provide clean latrine access to families worldwide through its partnership with Samagra.
