Known to family and friends as an extreme worry wart, I have an uncanny ability to dream up the worst possible outcome in any situation. If there’s a way to prevent negative scenarios or at least improve the aftermath, I’m all over it.
After a car accident a few years ago, my anxiety increased. The details of the crash were fuzzy and the case still hasn’t been settled in court. Fast-forward to a month ago when my vehicle was randomly vandalized while parked on the street near my place. A common occurrence in our neck of the woods but still un-nerving.
Naturally, the concept of a dash cam appeals to someone like me and, after doing some research, I had one installed by BlackboxMyCar. Dash cams attach to your windshield and record continuous footage as you drive, looping over the oldest material when it begins a new cycle. If an accident occurs, it provides undisputable evidence, avoiding scams and reducing the time it takes to settle a claim. It saves so much time, in fact, that some countries, including England and South Korea, offer insurance discounts for customers with a dash cam. It’s only a matter of time before Canadian corporations follow suit.
BlackboxMyCar offers several brands and models but the Thinkware F100 best fit my needs due to affordability and features like Full HD (providing more detail) and 135-degree wide-angle view. I also chose the optional hard wiring, which allows for parking mode by motion detection (translation: it records while you’re parked, too). This was crucial for me due to the high level of vehicle break-ins in my area.
The BBMC team was efficient and informative and after a speedy half-hour installation, I was back on the road feeling much more equipped for any vehicle-related drama that may come my way. Anxiety, be gone! —Rachel Johnston
