The hottest trend in accessories has everything to do with addressing your tresses. From the ’90s throwback of the scrunchie to Blair Waldorf’s signature headband, hair accessories are trendier than ever. Here are some of our faves of late. —Vicki Duong
barrettes. Based and designed in Vancouver, Foe and Dear prides itself on thoughtfully designed and ethically produced accessories. The Presley hair clip ($40 for a set of two) is made with 100 per cent eco-friendly acetate and offered in three trendy summer colours (we love the papaya)!
bobby pins. This standard hair tool gets a luxe upgrade with Jennifer Behr Chrysalis’ bobby pins ($325 for a set of five), crafted to look like butterflies. Each pin is hand painted and set with Swarovski crystals in New York to ensure it’s anything but basic. (Style secret: these were seen on celebs at the Met Gala.)
bun pin. Perfect for those who don’t like to fuss with their locks, Mlkanhny handmade brass bun pins ($28) make it easy to throw your hair up without a dozen different accessories. Just wrap your hair into a bun (or half bun) and push the prongs through to hold. Better for your hair than traditional hair elastics, which can cause hair to break.
statement piece. Say it in rhinestones with this Kitsch hairpin (from $29), sure to be the centre of attention at any party. Celeb stylist, Justine Marjan collaborated with Kitsch to create these hashtag-worthy pins with trendy words like “glam,” “boss” and “icon.” This touch of sparkle has been a popular accessory with the queen of the ponytail, Ariana Grande.
knotted headband. An easy way to add a touch of style to even unstyled hair, this leopard knotted headband from Anthropologie ($18) is the perfect accessory for a more understated animal print.
multifunctional ribbon. Made in Quebec by Sarah Beaudoin, Gibou’s just-launched second summer collection includes a magical, multifunctional hair ribbon ($16) that’s the ideal ponytail pairing for an elevated look. Available in two colours to suit every summer mood!
