There are several cool nail trends dominating runways, fashion shoots and beauty counters this spring. Whether you love something loud (like electric-blue polish) or something quieter (like a nude mani), here are five nail products to add to your beauty arsenal now. —Jennifer Cox
cute cuticles. Deborah Lippmann cuticle oil and treatment ($17 at Sephora) softens with jojo-ba and coconut oils and protects with vitamin E. The luxurious formula works fast, absorbs quickly and never leaves hands slick. Trend: brightly coloured cuticles mean getting those cuticles up to par and then highlighting them in a cool hue.
nail that twist. Flip your manicure around and leave those tips in a monochromatic hue, then add the punch of colour to the base of your nails. Try it out with a great manicure starter set like the one from Zoya ($96). The topsy-turvy look will definitely turn some heads. Trend: for a twisted French manicure put the top on the bottom and the bottom on top.
heavy metals. Metallic colours are super luxurious for spring. Paint your nails in pure indulgence, like this gold shade called Closet Millionaire from Nails Inc. ($15). Trend: get in on the wide range of metal-y polishes, from gold, silver and bronze to metallicized reds, pinks, purples and blues.
subtle simplicity. Sure, colour can be pretty, but so can organic polishes that come in a selection of beiges, nudes and whites. CND Shellac is a beautiful starting point; its four-piece nude collection offers light colours in long-lasting formula ($76). Trend: nudes and whites to lend an uncomplicated au naturel look.
more of the same. A stylish nail trend on the runways is using the same colour on colour: a darker red with a lighter red overcoat, for example. It gives the nail a multi-dimensional effect. Try it with hues from Essie, like Forever Yummy and a similar red (available at Jean Coutu, $10). Trend: two colours together are always better than one.
