Picturing the Americas

June 10, 2015

agoOn June 20th, in the spirit of the Pan Am Games in July, the AGO is opening a new exhibit entitled Picturing the Americas: Landscape Painting from Tierra Del Fuego to the Arctic.

Take in 100-plus paintings depicting iconic landscapes (mountains, jungles, forests and volcanoes—oh my) from 10 lending countries including Mexico, Brazil, the United States and Canada. Among the many artists, look for works by Félix Émile Taunay, Cornelius Krieghoff, José María Velasco, Thomas Cole, Gerardo Murillo “Dr. Atl”, Tarsila do Amaral, Lawren Harris, Georgia O’Keeffe and, of course, Emily Carr.

Whether to appreciate the grandeur of nature or explore the histories of far-flung lands, you’ll surely find a piece or two to marvel at. —Julia Parfenyuk
