Excitement to us means finding a rare hidden gem—especially one that, in return, makes us feel more beautiful. The Spa at the Madison in Burnaby does just that—and the treatment we recently experienced there proves it.

With a beautiful interior and a boutique feel, this full-service day spa (located just minutes east of Boundary Road) offers a variety of professional skin and body treatments, eyelash extensions and perming, electrolysis, waxing and an array of advanced skin treatments like IPL microdermabrasion, RMD, peels and more, each fully customized to create an individualized experience every time you visit. Owner Rena Perrotta and her team of pro staff are constantly upgrading their training and equipment to keep up with new technologies and education, to provide clients with the best possible non-invasive treatments available. Oh, and did we mention: Spa at the Madison is award-winning and has been in business for nearly 20 years, to boot.

Our visit began with a personal consult in a pristine (and serene) treatment room. First, a pleasant Q&A session that helped determine our skin type and concerns, and the treatment to best address them. Next, an intensely satisfying facial featuring Dermalogica products (every one handpicked specially for us) before the main event: our Skin Remodelling Treatment using a non-invasive machine called an RMD. The device works to firm sagging muscles, increase local blood and lymph circulation, stimulate fibroblast activity, increase the synthesis of new collagen, repair existing collagen and regenerate the homeostasis of skin cells by delivering energy to the dermis and muscle tissue, where it safely elicits muscle toning and skin rejuvenation responses. Our expert esthetician (Rena herself) did one half of our face first—and wow, did we ever see a difference when we gazed into the mirror!

Full treatment done, our experience finished with the application of more moisture, some sunscreen, and voila: we were ready to face the rest of the day! Truly impressed by this gorgeous little space—not to mention, the vast amount of training, knowledge and know-how possessed by this team of wonderful women—we will most definitely back (and are planning to bring a friend or two along next time!). —Noa Nichol
