There’s a lot more to Whistler than Olympic-worthy ski runs. In fact, a weekend getaway to the world-class alpine resort doesn’t have to involve strapping on skis at all. Here’s how. —Michelle Hopkins

stay. Nestled steps from the Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas, the award-winning Westin Resort & Spa recently underwent a facelift—and she is mighty pretty. Each of the 400 suites now boast kitchens with Whistler vibe, Zen-inspired bathrooms and, most importantly, ridiculously comfy beds.

sans skiing. For anyone who has ever ziplined during the summer, you are in for an exhilarating chilly thrill. Buckle up with the Adventure Group’s Superfly Ziplines. Soaring through the air over Cougar Mountain might sound like an odd way to enjoy yourself—especially in the middle of winter. However, for the adventure seekers out there, cold-weather zip-lining is truly exhilarating. Or, strap on your snowshoes for a trek through old-growth forests on a guided snowshoeing tour through some wonderland-ish backcountry trails.

savour. Skiing or, in this case, not, plus breathing in all that fresh mountain air is sure to leave you hungry. Start at the Westin’s Grill & Vine restaurant, where the breakfast buffet includes an omelet station, seasonal fruits and cheeses. Lunchtime, head to Fifi’s Bistro & Café for health-conscious cuisine (and the most marvellous spinach and beet salad and rustic tomato soup). For après anything you can’t beat Garibaldi Lift Company Bar & Grill; try the fish tacos and truffle fries while people watching on the heated outdoor patio. Dinner presents such excellent options as the Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s iconic The Wildflower, where locally inspired dishes like the smoked Gindara sablefish or venison bolognes (pair either with a fine Burrowing Owl cabernet sauvignon) warm both heart and soul. For an unforgettable post-supper experience, visit the Bearfoot Bistro’s Ketel One Ice Room—the world’s coldest vodka tasting room (loaner Canada Goose parkas come free of charge).

spa. Perched above Whistler’s stunning natural landscape, the Scandinave Spa Whistler boasts three acres’ worth of solariums, terraces, outdoor firepits and hot and cold mineral baths. The postcard-worthy scenery may just make you forget (maybe for a minute) how cold some of the pools are! Hungry? There’s even a bistro offering delicious light fare right on site.
