A favourite among beauty gurus and makeup artists, Pixi by Petra has amassed a very loyal following. The company’s award-winning Glow Tonic, part of the Skin Treats range, is undoubtedly its hero product: this five per cent glycolic acid exfoliant toner with aloe vera is suitable for all skin types and, for under $40, itʼs easy to see why it’s a best seller. Now, the "glow" offering has grown to include five new items, including a cleansing gel, skin-refining serum and sheet masks. We chatted with Pixiʼs global artistry director, Amanda Bell, to get the latest scoop on the beauty brand and her tips for creating a perfect sun-kissed glow for summer. —Lyndi Barrett
Pixi has become well known for its Skin Treats range. Tell us about that collection and its evolution.
We have expanded and grown our skin-care collection organically over the last 20 years, with SS19 being the largest launch of skin-care newness in Pixi’s history! We created families of products that include perfect partners so that you can be prescriptive in your routine and use products that are either in a family (the whole family has ingredients that complement and work in perfect synergy) or you can pick and choose across the range, creating a bespoke regime that delivers exactly what your skin needs. The ethos of Pixi has stayed authentic and true, whereby Petra, our founder, has created products that span nature and innovation and are cruelty free at a wonderfully affordable price point, with no compromising on quality!
As the weather warms up, is it a good idea to change up our skin-care routine?
When you would change your coat (moving from thick winter to a lighter-weight jacket) is when you should switch up your skin care, too. Think about lighter, water-based textures with humectants so that the skin is left hydrated and never overloaded with textures that are too rich.
Many of us want to achieve that natural sun-kissed glow during the summer. What are your favourite products to use for these results?
A sun-kissed effect doesn’t have to be restricted to just adding a little bronzer! I switch out my eye makeup for warm peaches and bronze and a peach hue for blusher, which really livens the skin, and a warm sheer glaze of colour on the lips, too, so, when you add a little bronzer, it is essentially just "gilding the lily". My favourites on eyes/cheeks and general bronzer are Pixi Glow Cake in GildedBare and the Lip Icing in Toffee.
We love the new eye masks and face masks by Pixi. What are the benefits of adding these products to our skin-care routine?
The results are very targeted and immediate—they are the perfect add-on to your regular maintenance routine as they work like boosters. Maximum efficacy with minimum effort! From tired/puffy prone eyes to dull lacklustre and dehydrated skin, they are the ultimate pick-me-ups!
What skin-care products will you never travel without?
My skin is prone to sensitivity and dehydration when I travel so my favourites are all about hydration and soothing: Double Cleanser, Rose Tonic, Hydrating Milky Mist, Rose Oil, Phenomenal Gel (also fantastic as an after-sun) is the perfect routine to keep my skin in perfect balance. On a long-haul flight I layer the Collagen Plumping Mask under a Glow Boost Sheet Mask on the plane and spritz liberally the Hydrating Milky Mist. Also, when I get to my destination the first thing I do is put my skin care in the mini bar; a little bit EXTRA but it just enhances the soothing element!
