This May, we’re honouring motherhood by chatting with some of our favourite mom bloggers, influencers and content creators about the highs, the lows and the many moments in-between. —Vita Daily
Hi Codi! Tell us a little bit about you and what do you do!?
I had two kids at home, one in kindergarten and the other just six months old, when I decided I wanted to go back to school for graphic design. As I enrolled in the course and already large passion for small business and social media I decided to start a blog and Instagram to get connected with businesses. I thought that it would be a great way to network and build a name for when I graduated and could start taking on clients. As I went through school my blog started to grow and it was transforming from just a hobby into a business in itself. I graduated, work on both my design business and blog until we were about to have our third baby and I knew something needed to give. For the last two years I’ve been running my blog full time and working from home while raising three kids. It’s challenging yet so rewarding, such a joy to be able to be home with them and still work and do exactly what I am passionate about.
How do you use your platform to impact other moms—and parents—who follow you?
I love supporting local. From the very beginning I was connecting with local small businesses (mainly moms) who started their businesses from home and were hustling as moms and business owners to provide for their families. It’s been such a pleasure to be able to connect with so many work at home mother’s and share their products and stories. At the same time, I share my own story. I get a lot of lifestyle questions about the way we do things, style, travel and parenting tips. I’m an open book on my Instagram and blog and want to make everyone feel welcome, encouraged and motivated in all walks of life.
What’s your personal style/beauty mantra?
Comfort over class over here! I like to get dressed up and look like I put some effort in (sometimes, ha!) but at the end the day it’s pants off, no bra and all about the loungewear!
What would the Mother’s Day of your fantasies be? And what, in reality, does Mother’s Day usually look like at your house?
Ohhh of my fantasies, hmmm. The first thing that came to mind would be to be on the beach somewhere. I LOVE travelling, and will take every opportunity to do it so it would be amazing to be away, somewhere hot surrounded by family. Typically, though, Mother’s Day starts out slow. My hubby and the kids make breakfast and we aim to spend some point of the day with both of our moms if we can. We love being surrounded by family and are so blessed to have both families living nearby.
Did motherhood come easy to you, or were there challenges (if so, any in particular you’d like to share)?
Motherhood will always have it’s ups and downs. It truly is one of the hardest things I have ever done. It’s not one size fits all and each kid isn’t anything like the other. At the same time, I wouldn’t say that it didn’t come easily. I always wanted to be a mom, dreaming about what my kids’ names would be, what they’d look like and what their favourite sports would be. I had a moment the other day while playing with my children, reflecting on my younger self and saying to myself, “This is what you dreamed of.” It’s those moments of pure bliss that make the challenging moments easier to come by. Parenting wouldn’t be parenting without it’s fair share of challenges. For me it’s my faith and trusting in intuition that has helped overcome the challenging times.
The hardest thing about being a mom? The best thing?
Ohhh boy, each age comes with it’s fair share of challenges and depending on the season of life we are in I think my answer would vary. Newborn stage, the no sleep, changing many many diapers a day, getting pooped and puked on repeatedly … need I go further?! The best: every single time they look at you, right into your eyes and tell you they love you. The moments they come to you and just wrap their arms around you for the most loveable embrace. The moments you know that all they need, is you. Those exact moments are the ones that wash away any challenges and remind you that, you got this.
