Imagine a journey where you drive through a sun-kissed region with rows upon rows of vineyards dotting the lush hillsides, stopping off to visit wineries where local winemakers are true artisans who take great pride in toiling the earth. With more than 40 wineries and a plethora of outdoor activities to take part in, Kelowna, B.C., is the perfect getaway. —Michelle Hopkins

stay. Hotel Eldorado harkens back to the Roaring Twenties, when ladies dressed in their finest cavorted waterside with Vancouver’s wealthy. The original Eldorado was built in 1926 by Countess Bubna, an aristocratic Englishwoman. Today, this iconic property blends old-world charm and modern amenities, including 52 luxury rooms and stunning lakeside dining. Looks aside, the resort offers endless diversions, like a marina, pool, hot tub, parasailing, kayaking, wine tours and more.

savour. Downtown Kelowna’s Krafty Kitchen + Bar is aptly named. This farm-to-table eatery offers a good dose of atmosphere to go along with its organic fare. Top Chef Canada contender Chris Shaften presents innovative dishes such as vegan crab cakes, Peking duck burger and, our fave, the smoke roasted salmon. The nearby Salt & Brick is where chef James Holmes creates fastidiously crafted share/small plates daily to pair beautifully with the extensive curated wine list (warning: the cauliflower with curry aioli, honey and nori could become a real addiction). On the waterfront in the Delta Grand Hotel you will discover Oak + Cru Social Kitchen & Wine Bar. Locally sourced gastronomy handcrafted in-house, an impressive wine program that offers dozens of B.C. wines by the glass and front-row seats to postcard-worthy lakeside patio. Also on the water in the Manteo Resort is Smack Dab where a carte du jour showcases delicious options for vegetarians, seafood lovers and carnivores alike.

sip. Whether you are accustomed to estate wineries in Napa or Italy, Mission Hill Family Estate winery is just as jaw-dropping gorgeous, boasting 40 original sculptures, a 12-storey bell tower, a collection of ancient Greek amphorae, award-winning wines and, to top it all off, an annual summer concert series in its very own outdoor amphitheatre. Next, head to Summerhill Pyramid Winery, Canada’s largest organic winery. From the massive wineglass and wine bottle sculpture to the refurbished pyramid to eclectic artwork, there are surprises around every corner at this property. Try the Syrah Malbec Rose and the Reserve Barrel Organic Merlot and come with an appetite because the fare served at the organic bistro is nothing short of spectacular.

sojourn. After a soiree of fine wine and food, a cycle along the Kettle Valley Railway Trestles at Myra Canyon is a must! No bikes? No worries. You can rent from Myra Canyon Bicycle Rental & Tours Inc. An exhilarating 22-kilometre ride along 18 trestles and two tunnels is a fantastic way to burn off some calories. Alternately, lace up your hiking boots and reward your soul and body at Knox Mountain Park in the heart of the city. Paul’s Tomb is an easy hike and gives you unobstructed views of Okanagan Lake. If you want a more strenuous hike, try Apex Trail.
