jillian harris

is the instagram esthetic really over? Says Jillian: "The purpose of my Instagram is never to make people feel like my life is perfect. The reason why that feed looks so perfect … is because that’s my talent and my craft. I enjoy making things look beautiful. I enjoy capturing life, and products and food and avocado toast and the most beautiful moments. There are a lot of ugly things going on in the world and I want to find beauty and inspire people. I don’t shave my legs every day, my hair is always grey, my teeth usually feel like they are covered in sweaters, however, if I’m representing another brand it’s my responsibility to shave my legs, do my nails and comb my hair so that I can do the best job I can do for that brand.”

canada’s test pilot of not allowing users to see “likes”. "It doesn’t matter to me how many likes I get. I would be 100 per cent for them [Instagram] taking likes away and if it affected my business so be it because I believe for mental health it’s the way to go. If they’re doing it for mental health and they prove that it would be successful for society and our community then I’d be game."

social media celebrity life. "I think right now I’m spreading myself too thin, I’m working too much, I’m not getting enough sleep, I’m not eating enough and I’m saying yes too much. You feel like you’re on the pedestal and there’s so much pressure to be this perfect person. Sometimes I just want to give someone the finger at a red light and hope they don’t recognize me.”

what does healthy look like? "Be perfect but not too perfect. Inspire people, but be humble. Be a good mom. Be a good business leader. Be a good boss but be a good storyteller. Make people laugh but don’t say anything off-side or off colour because that could be sexist. It’s a lot of pressure. Somedays I feel on top of the world. Some days I feel like I’m spinning out of control.”

on the addiction to blogger life. “The problem is, is there is an energy and a high that comes from what I do and it’s an addiction. My kids, my family, my health are the most important to me for sure but I’m slightly addicted to the high of this amazing career that I have."
