This year, our top New Year’s resolution was to try and make more eco-friendly choices for our home and the planet. Fast-forward one month and these are some of the eco-friendly swaps we’ve been loving. —Vicki Duong
instead of paper towels … we’ve been loving these Danica Studio Swedish dishcloths ($25 for a set of three) that are ultra absorbent, machine washable and good for up to six months. They are made up of wood pulp and cotton and all of the designs are printed with water-based ink, meaning that they can be tossed in the compost at the end of their life cycle.
instead of aerosol dry shampoos … try Pink House Organics dry shampoo ($18), from a brand that’s wholly focused on natural and organic beauty products. Wanting to be more mindful of excess waste, this dry shampoo recently had a packaging update to cardboard containers that can be recycled. Bonus: not only is skipping a few showers better for your hydro bill, it’s also better for the environment.
instead of facial wipes … invest in a MakeUp Eraser ($26) for all of your makeup-removing needs. Facial wipes are currently the third leading cause of waste in our landfills and this product aims to reduce the amount of waste per person. Each cloth removes even stubborn makeup with just water and lasts up to 1,000 machine washes.
instead of disposable razors … switch to a safety razor, like this one from Well Kept ($68). Designed with solid brass, these completely plastic-free razors are meant to last a lifetime and the replacement blades are recyclable! We have also been loving using a single blade for the closest shave ever.
instead of plastic bags … bring these nostalgic style totes ($55) with you the next time you’re on a grocery run. Designed in the same style as traditional plastic grocery bags, these Andrea Wong totes feature a slightly longer handle for more versatility and are made of sturdy canvas to withstand years of wear.
