decorations. Instead of buying fancy decorations, get creative and make your own. For a typical Irish environment, draw some shamrocks on green colouring paper or assemble green balloons into the same form and tape them up on your walls. Attach a string to your wall and cut out green paper hearts, black and green Leprechaun hats or any other shape that so it looks like a garland. If you have white or orange decorations or paper, add those to your green décor to get the colours of the Irish flag.
outfits. Don’t have anything green to wear? Grab the lightest colour T-shirts in your wardrobe and a green sharpie and you and your squad can design personalized shirts. Write “Kiss me, I’m Irish” and head off to the dollar store to add embellishments like jewels, glitter and rhinestones. Shred up the shirt with scissors, tie some bows and have a competition to see who comes up with the best design.
food. To stay consistent with the theme, a little green natural food colouring goes a long way! Try adding a couple of drops into baking recipes. Find a shamrock cookie cutter and make some green shortbread cookies. Add some natural green colouring to your frosting and let your imagination take hold! You can also add this to any alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages of your choice. If you don’t feel like making anything green from scratch, try the green Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake, or the Mint Chocolate Chip Polar-Pizza at Baskin-Robbins. These sweet treats are sure to satisfy that your taste buds and serve as a midday pick-me-up as your team starts to lose energy. The Polar-Pizza is perfect for sharing with your friends and, if you’re among adult friends, the milkshake can be combined with a little liquor for a specialty iced drink at home.
games. If you’re looking for a fun and festive St. Patrick’s Day without the bars and crowds, stay indoors with these fun activities. Setting up a wall for photos with lights and banners is a great way to get some Instagram-worthy pictures with your friends! Next up, a scavenger hunt for the pot of gold. Fill a container of your choice with treats like candy and chocolates! Let them roam the house for it – finders’ keepers!
movies. Films are a fantastic way to end off the day. Everyone will be tuckered out after all the decorating, eating and drinking. Wind down with your friends, some pillows, pajamas and some popcorn. Make some homemade green popcorn by adding a drop or two of natural food colouring into the oil and stirring the kernels around before putting a lid on your pot. Movies like Just My Luck, Leap Year, Once, P.S. I Love You, and Philomena are sure to have you improving your Irish accent while providing some laughs along the way.
