This Friday is National Ice Cream Day—a day to sink our teeth into the beloved treat, at least figuratively. We chatted with ice-cream expert Anna Colachhio, a longtime veteran at Baskin-Robbins, about our fave cold-and-creamy summer treat. —Vita Daily
Hi Anna! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start (including your ice cream-filled background).
My name is Anna Colacchio, and I have been in the ice cream business for 32 years. I joined the Baskin-Robbins team after I completed my first year of college. It was meant to be a summer job, getting some experience in the corporate world, however 32 years later and I am still here!
This Friday is National Ice Cream Day! Besides eating the stuff, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with some awesome ice cream trivia. What are some of your favourite fun ice cream facts?
Chocolate was created before vanilla; ice cream sundaes were actually meant for Sundays; when you get a brain freeze from the ice cream, sticking your tongue to the roof of your mouth is a quick solution; one cone can be finished off in 50 licks!
Can you give us the names of some famous former Baskin-Robbins scoopers?
Some of our most famous scoopers include Barack Obama, Rosie O’Donnell, Julia Roberts and chef Bobbie Flay!
We’re particularly intrigued with the fact that Sean “Diddy” Combs got his first break by starring in a Baskin-Robbins commercial at the age of two—is there any video evidence of this amazing ad?
We have tried to dig and find the footage but have had no luck! The search continues …
Final, personal question: if you were stuck on a “dessert” (pun intended) island, what one flavour of ice cream would you insist on having with you?
Though I do love flavours Peanut Butter’n Chocolate and Gold Medal Ribbon, I would say it has to be Mint Chocolate Chip!
