Celebrate Iced Tea Month (Recipes!)

June 10th is Iced Tea Day, and the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada wants to help us celebrate all month with some iced tea facts and DIY recipes! Did you know iced tea was popularized after the 1904 World’s Fair and that the key factor in its growth in popularity was the development of refrigeration? In terms of a top iced tea tip, make ice cubes out of your tea to help keep it cold when serving without diluting. Now, try these classic iced tea recipes for DIY brewers of all levels at home (how pretty is the berry version?!). Cheers! —Vita Daily

Classic Iced Tea

6 black tea bags (or 6 tsp. loose black tea)
1 cup sugar
8 cups boiling water
Lemon slices (for garnish)

Bring 8 cups of fresh water to a boil. Place tea into large pitcher. Pour boiled water over tea bags and stir. Let steep for 8 minutes. Remove tea bags and add sugar. Stir until dissolved. Let mixture cool to room temperature (approximately 2 hours). Fill glasses with ice and pour cooled iced tea into glasses. Serve with a slice of lemon. Store remaining iced tea in fridge.

Sweet Lemon Iced Tea

6 black tea bags (or 6 tsp. loose black tea)
1 litre lemonade
4 cups boiling water
Lemon slices (for garnish)

Bring 4 cups of fresh water to a boil. Place tea into large pitcher. Pour boiled water over tea bags and stir. Let steep for 8 minutes. Remove tea bags and let mixture cool to room temperature (approximately 2 hours). Add lemonade to pitcher and stir. Fill glasses with ice and pour cooled iced tea into glasses. Serve with a slice of lemon. Store remaining iced tea in fridge.

Mixed Berry Herbal Iced Tea

6 bags of berry based herbal tea (or 6 tsp. loose black tea)
1 1/2 cups frozen or fresh mixed berries
8 cups boiling water
Lime slices (for garnish)

Bring fresh water to a boil. Place tea into large pitcher. Pour boiled water over tea bags and stir. Let steep for 8 minutes. Remove tea bags. Add berries to pitcher and stir. Let mixture cool to room temperature (approximately 2 hours). After the mixture has cooled, stir. Fill glasses with ice and pour cooled iced tea into glasses. Store remaining iced tea in fridge.
