Here’s a fact we heard this week: San Diego State University’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film found only nine percent of the directors of 2012’s 250 top-grossing films were women. The study stated that number had increased (up 4% from the previous year) but long term growth has been sluggish. In light of this brush with the celluloid ceiling and the fact that, upon reflection, tons of our favourite movies have female directors, we thought to put together a small celebration of women in cinema and the films they’ve created that inspire, entertain, and teach us. 3…2…1…
