Hello Nam! Please tell us a bit about yourself (and that famous Nam Vo Glow) to start!

I have been a makeup artist my whole life and started with doing makeup at a strip club. I currently live in NYC and come from a Vietnamese-American background. I have been a makeup artist and skin-care extraordinaire since I was able to get a job—I really have always worked in beauty. I am a firm believe that beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin and I love radiant, glowing skin. I think that skin should always look three dimensional and while not everyone can have porcelain skin, skin care is such an important step people can take. We should treat the skin like piece of silk and work to achieve a lit-from-within look—that is the ideal Nam Vo Glow/Dewy Dumpling look.

How did you come to hook up with Dr.Belmeur? What attracted you/made you want to work with the brand?

K-beauty is at the forefront in a lot of their technological advancements and innovations in skin care. A brand like Dr.Belmeur is very much aligned with what I believe in and I think some of the best products in the world are a combination of nature meeting science—I think this is the perfect marriage when it comes to skin care. I’m also drawn to the high-quality ingredients you get at a very good price range. The products speak for themselves and yield beautiful results.

Please tell us everything we need to know about Dr.Belmeur’s new Red Pro-Retinol Serum … particularly why a skin-care pro like you loves it!

Dr.Belmeur’s new Red Pro-Retinol Serum is great for all skin types, including people with sensitive skin. I was particularly drawn to it because the technology behind it is really well thought out and despite being gentle on the skin, it is very effective. The product is gentle enough that it can be used on a nightly basis, with is great. I also love that the longer you use it, the better it works, and that when I added it into my current skin-care routine, it was compatible with all of my other skin-care products because it is so gentle.

As a makeup artist, how do products like Dr.Belmeur’s new Red Pro-Retinol Serum help you do your job/accomplish your signature “dewy dumpling” look on your clients?

I’m a firm believer that the better the skin, the better the makeup is going to look. The Red Pro-Retinol Serum is really good because it does everything: it tightens, brightens and improves the quality of the skin. I also believe that the less work I have to do on the canvas, the better the makeup looks when applied. If you take good care of your skin, you don’t have to create the illusion of good skin. That is why I believe it is so important to treat the canvas with good skin-care products, rather than have to create the illusion of a smooth canvas. I also really love the Dr.Belmeur CICA Eye Cream. I have worked with women of all ages and races and find that one of the top concerns when it comes to skin is the undereye area. People all have undereye concerns, whether the area is dark, puffy, or sunken—this seems to be an area where we all have some type of concern. The CICA Eye Cream is hydrating and gives a beautiful slip over the skin so when I need to go in and conceal and colour correct, it provides a great base.

As we approach the new year, what kinds of skin-care resolutions are you making?

I am aiming for tighter, brighter and prettier skin. As I get older, I really would like to keep my skin plump, moist, and ensure it has that dewy dumpling look. I know it is impossible to not have flaws and wrinkles and I can accept that, but I want to have the best skin-care quality possible. I think it is so important to invest in good skin care, but find that a lot of women neglect their hands and neck. So I would say a good skin-care resolution for anyone is to take whatever treatment they’re using and make sure to not only apply to the face, but also bring it down onto the neck, and rub the excess into the hands. I say this because when you’re looking at someone, you’re looking at the whole picture so while the face is the priority, we should give some love to our neck, chest and hands as well.
