fuel is on fire

January 19, 2007

Just when we thought we’d exhausted the chic lunch spots in the city:
boom.

Another one hits the ground running.

Fuel is a
bright (in both senses) new room led by a stellar culinary and service
team with pedigrees that span from C Restaurant to the world-famous
French Laundry.

From the custom-bent silver wire chandelier in the dining room to the
street-front kitchen windows (where you might even see them butchering a
pig) the place is pure spectacle.

But it’s also pure honesty, as in the house-made chorizo, lovely duck
terrines and home-baked brioche.

Hint: Go at noon hour and you can sample dinner menu items at lunchtime
prices such as the crispy rainbow trout with hazelnut brown butter and
Swiss chard ($17/$25). Or sink your teeth into a braised lamb-shoulder
sandwich ($14) with green olive tapenade and red onion rings.

Don’t all get the same idea at once, now.
