Bubble Away This Valentine’s Day

February 10, 2021

Though we ever need an excuse to sip sparkling wine of any kind, the timing just seems right on this particular year to celebrate all the amour we can muster. Whether you go big, splurging on real Champagne, pop a cava or Prosecco, or quietly open a subtle frizzante, here’s a list of fizzy favourites for Valentine’s Day. —Catherine Dunwoody

veuve clicquot rosé. Madame Clicquot herself created this some 200 years ago, breaking with French tradition to make the first pink Champagne. Full-bodied, with berry and biscuit notes and a stunning hue that glows beautifully in your flute or coupe glass. $92 at BC Liquor Stores

bottega rose gold brut. Italy loves its Prosecco, and this semi-dry bubble is lightly aromatic, has a soft, frothy mousse and subtle strawberry and floral notes. Plus—the rose gold metallic bottle? Love. Serve this with chocolate-dipped strawberries. $32at BC Liquor Stores

singletree victory. Supporting local wineries, this one from Abbotsford, is easy when you can purchase from an online store. This wine is considered a frizzante, which means the bubble size is a little softer than, say, a Prosecco, and a great value at $21 (at Singetree Winery).

bollinger special cuvee nv. A classic French Champagne that checks all the right boxes: dry, tight bubble, clean finish, delicious golden hue. Serve it with spicy tomato sauce pasta, or creamy cheeses for dessert. $90 at BC Liquor Stores

oliver twist chantilly lace. B.C.’s Okanagan women-owned-and-operated winery is serving up its bubble in a super-cute bottle with nostalgic pinup artwork. $22 at Oliver Twist Winery
