Best 8 Whites From B.C. Wine Month

April’s B.C. Wine Month is winding down, but there is still time to discover our wineries’ shining stars. Here are eight wonderful whites from around the province you need to restock your wine fridge in time for spring and ahead of summer sipping season! —Catherine Dunwoody

Coolshanagh Chardonnay. This Naramata Bench winery is known for French-style wines, and its Chardonnay ($30 online and in selected liquor stores) is more like a lively, crisp Chablis. Since we can’t travel to Provence, we say oui to bringing a little France to us.

Phantom Creek Pinot Gris. The winery is an absolute stunner and opened just last year in the Okanagan’s Black Sage Bench. In particular, its Alsatian-style Pinot Gris ($33 online) is getting lots of buzz.

Chaberton 2019 Estate Grown Siegerrebe. Pronounced zee-geh-RAY-buh, this dry German-style grape ($17 online or at the Langley winery shop) tops our “try something new” wine list, ideal with grilled white meats or your next cheese board.

Peak Cellars 2017 Chardonnay. Aged in French Oak for 11 months, this medium-bodied wine ($30 online) is perfection with shredded pork carnitas or simple, olive-oily or brown butter pastas.

Singletree Grüner Veltliner 2019. Here’s another grape you don’t find much in B.C., but well worth a try ($17 available online and at the Abbotsford and Naramata wineries). Its honey and citrus notes make for easy spring sipping on your home patio or front stoop.

See Ya Later Ranch Luna. An Okanagan white wine blend that’s refreshing and plays nice with casual foods like tacos and poke bowls, plus a super-steal on sale for $13.50 until May 1 at BC Liquor Stores.

Roche Texture Pinot Gris 2019. This Penticton winery uses French traditional methods, and this Pinot Gris ($22 online) with its notes of gala apple and florals pairs perfectly with grilled wild B.C. salmon.
