There’s A New Way to Wine (And Win!)

Listen up, and level up: there’s a new wine club in town. Wine Vikings was created not only to introduce wine lovers in the Lower Mainland, Squamish, Whistler, Victoria and Nanaimo (and, hopefully soon, to the rest of B.C.) to the latest and greatest bottles in the business, but also to build connections between wine drinkers, the restaurants they love and discovering great wines from around the globe.

Here’s how it works: each quarter, a case of six unique wines—a mix of reds and whites—that have been sipped and vetted by an all-star lineup of rotating chefs, somms and restaurateurs (aptly named “wine vikings“) will be delivered right to your door (from $210 billed every three months). These selections, unavailable at government and limited independent liquor stores, are specially chosen to help educate you on the producers, varieties and well-loved local pairings (read: mouthwatering food). And, since everyone loves a good surprise, the exact wines included in each subscription will only be revealed upon receipt … though you can catch descriptions for each wine in the current subscription online.

But that’s not all. The club’s wine vikings will then guide you through each bottle via virtual video tastings (you’ll receive a QR code to access members-only video content with your wine delivery), meant to spark fun conversations and help you understand what you’re sippin’ on and why it matters. You’ll also get an online write up on each wine, why the wine vikings chose it, key tasting notes and suggested dish pairings.

The current wine vikings selecting your summer box sips (on-sale now and delivered June 1 to 15) are Michelle Kanis and Anson Lo from Bar Corso. The upcoming lineup of Wine Vikings includes Downlow Chicken’s Doug Stephen (fall 2021), Ask For Luigi’s Matthew Morgenstern (winter 2021) and Savio Volpe’s Paul Grunberg (spring 2022).
