There’s good food aplenty in Italy—this we already know. So, for this trip to Milan, we thought why not put the one thing we like more than fresh pasta and cheese in the spotlight? Uno, due, tre, let’s go shopping.
stay: As an alternative to the Moschino Hotel, which is quite pricey, check out (or, rather check into) the quattro-star Uptown Palace. A 10-minute walk from the Duomo (and, more importantly, the elegant La Rinascente department store), this modern hotel is chic as can be and close to a grocery (where we stocked up on water and fruit), metro stations and shops. Uptown Palace, from €290 a night, Via Santa Sofia 10, 20122, Milan, +39 02 305131, www.uptownpalace.com
browse: Speaking of La Rinascente, this is one of Milan’s legendary department stores and worth browsing for footwear (seek out the Italian brands for better shoe deals) and kids” clothing (Fendi onesie, anyone?). Grab lunch, coffee or a cocktail at the top-floor café. We’ve been told you can’t leave Milan without drinking a Negroni, standing up at the bar. La Rinascente, Piazza Duomo, 20121, Milan, +39 02 88521, www.rinascente.it
buy: 10 Corso Como is a widely famous fashion address and home to some of the world’s edgiest clothing brands, including Alaïa, Alexander McQueen and Maison Martin Margiela (love these nesting dolls), as well as a fantastic café. This is where we spotted Moschino’s McDonald’s-inspired bags only a week after they premiered on fall 2014 runways (in other words, expect to discover exclusive items that are otherwise hard to find). 10 Corso Como, +39 02 2900 2674, 20154, Milan, www.10corsocomo.com
bag: The Brera district is stacked with hip, modern furniture stores full of Kartell and B&B Italia designs. But if you, too, suffer from limited suitcase space, pop into Skitsch for a good selection of smaller decor pieces, candles and textiles that are luggage friendly. They’ve even got a super-fancy Foosball table; for the home that has everything, it’s a steal at just €3,500. Skitsch, Via Monte di Pietà, 11, Milan, +39 02 36633065, http://www.skitsch.it/Home.aspx
eat: "Ciao" down at Alla Cucina delle Langhe, in its downstairs fine-dining or upstairs casual spaces. With excellent wine and Piedmont classics, we recommend you visit after you’ve been clothes shopping (you’ll likely be up a size after your meal). Alla Cucina delle Langhe, Corso Como 6, 20154 Milan, +39 02 6554279, www.trattoriaallelanghe.com —Alexandra Suhner Isenberg
