How To Celebrate National Chardonnay Day On May 27

May 25, 2021

Some say our favourite white wine is making a comeback; we say it was always here to stay. Celebrate Chardonnay Day with a bottle of one of these. —Catherine Dunwoody

See Ya Later Ranch 2019 Chardonnay ($17 at BC Liquor Stores) is one of our all-time fave Okanagan Chardonnays—oak-forward, with notes of vanilla, citrus and toffee. Pair it with prawn mac and cheese, or crab cakes.

Creamy and crisp from the Sonoma Valley, Rodney Strong Chalk Hill Chardonnay ($30 at BC Liquor Stores) works well with a Cobb salad or grilled halibut.

Clean fruit with creamy texture and mouth-watering acidity, Haywire Secrest Mountain Chardonnay 2018 ($27) pairs nicely with spot prawns or fresh oysters.

Heard of Okanagan winery Oliver Twist? Well, it’s now called Nostalgia Wines and it’s producing a nice lineup, especially the 2020 Nostalgia Chardonnay ($25). Pair it with charcuterie.

Louis Latour Bourgogne Chardonnay ($27 at BC Liquor Stores), a classic from France’s Burgundy region, is medium bodied with hints of melon, lemon and butter cream. Lovely with poached salmon or mushroom risotto.
