When Easter rolls in on a cherry-blossom-scented tuft of promise, warmth and chocolate, we can’t help but get into the spring spirit—and commensurate spring spirit animal, of course. Here’s how we’ll be celebrating Easter, with bunnies abound.
wear: This sweater from Viktor & Rolf’s pre-fall 2014 is smack-yourself-in-the-face adorable. Its chubby little bunny has revamped our view on graphics and animal imagery, and a dark palette keeps the look cool, not saccharine.
fantasize: Did you know that the Japanese island Okunoshimo is a rabbit paradise? Stampedes of semi-wild bunnies bound across the island’s 2.5-mile circumference, nibbling carrot sticks and endearing tourists. Daydream about visiting, because “see rabbit mecca” belongs on everyone’s bucket list.
eat: Buns are an Easter tradition, and we’re partial to big, fluffy, white bao. Made of pillowy rice dough, they’re warm and soft and sweet and kind of like eating a bunny without having to eat a bunny at all. We like New Town Bakery, but if you’re not in Vancouver this blogger made her own bao from scratch, complete with bunny ears. She also offers a recipe for bunny-shaped hot cross buns, but they look a little Donnie Darko.
listen: Get some rabbit vibes through your headphones with a couple thematic tracks. We dig Pink Rabbits by The National, Red Rabbits by The Shins, White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane and, before we work through the whole colour spectrum, Let’s Pretend We’re Bunny Rabbits by The Magnetic Fields.
Dare we say “hop to it”? Yeah, we dare. —Adrienne Matei
