5 Fun Thanksgiving Meal, Snack & Dessert Ideas

October 8, 2021

This year, more than ever, we have a lot to be thankful for. Make Thanksgiving extra fun as well as memorable by incorporating a few holiday-themed munchies, meals or sweet treats in your menu plans. Here are a few of our favourites—quick to put together, relatively inexpensive and always a hit! —Jennifer Cox

turkey for breakfast? Let us clarify: cinnamon rolls that have been transformed into ooey-gooey turkeys. Make frosted cinnamon rolls (even the ones in the can will do), use cooked pieces of bacon for the tail feathers, and then add candy eyes and a piece of candy corn for a beak.

apples! The wonderful thing about Canadian Thanksgiving is that it’s also apple season, so it’s the perfect time to make use of all those gorgeous (and affordable) apples! Pick up some popsicle sticks and a few simple ingredients and make a batch of candy or caramel apples. Get the kids involved in making them; that way, you can check dessert off your to-do list at the same time. You can even make mini ones by using a melon baller to hollow-out small apple bites that can be dunked in melted caramel or red candy coating. Fun toppings could be sprinkles, mini chocolate chips and chopped nuts.

paper bag drumstick treats. This one is super simple and inexpensive to pull off. Just put some fun treats in the bottom of a brown paper bag (bags of cookies, granola bars, fun fruits or candy), twist the bag in the middle and wrap the top-half with a small strip of white paper (to look like the bone). You can get extra creative and add some white curly shredded paper at the ends for an extra touch.

turkey cupcakes. Chocolate frosted cupcakes can become adorable little gobblers with a few sugary additions: candy eyes, a yellow Smartie for a beak and candy corn as tail feathers. You can also use frosted cookies or brownies baked in a muffin tin.
