They tried a combo of two products on his skin, and Ade saw an impressively quick and positive improvement. Voila! Blair + Jack was born, offering men’s skin-care products to support daily self-care! We chatted with Dr. Bimpe to find out more. —Noa Nichol
Hi Dr. Bimpe! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
I am a board-certified plastic surgeon with Ivy-league training and I have been in practice for 10 years. Outside of work, I am a wife and mother of boy-girl three-year-old twins, Blair and Jackson.
When and why did you launch Blair + Jack (what was the impetus)? What niche were/are you aiming to fill?
I launched Blair + Jack in December 2020. My husband asked me for help with managing his shaving bumps because he had tried many products, and nothing had worked for him. I rolled up my sleeves and started researching men’s skin, shaving bumps and active ingredients in skin-care products. Even though skin is an outward reflection of health and lifestyle, men’s skin care was not receiving the attention that I felt it deserved. Blair + Jack was born from my desire to solve my husband’s problem and to offer simple and effective solutions for men’s skin issues. It is important to me that the products are cruelty-free and that the line is clean in terms of avoiding toxic ingredients.
What products do you currently offer, and what sorts of results can users expect to experience?
Blair + Jack consists of five products that can be used in diverse skin types. The Day and Night formulas were designed to take care of shaving bumps. The Day Formula combines the bacteria-managing benzoyl peroxide with the anti-inflammatory properties of hydrocortisone. The Night Formula combines alpha and beta hydroxy acids to help exfoliate the skin. The Day and Night combination works best when skin is clean and moisturized, so I developed a full-but-simple skin-care line to include a gentle foaming face wash, and a hydrating moisturizer. The final product is a dark spot corrector. I always tell patients to “trust the process,” because great results take time. The Day and Night Formulas as well as the dark spot corrector usually take two months to show results.
Do men generally need different types of skin-care products than women? What’s the reason for creating a range specifically for men?
Men’s skin has unique characteristics, and I paid close attention to these differences when designing Blair + Jack. For instance, we know that men have thicker, oilier skin and larger pores as compared to women; men also tend to have more facial hair so shaving routines are of paramount importance. I addressed each of these differences when curating the products in Blair + Jack. Specifically, I focused on managing irritation, minimizing pore size and reducing inflammation.
Finally, what is the difference between medical-grade skin care and, well, the other stuff?!
The active ingredients that I chose have been studied extensively and there is robust evidence to support their effectiveness and how they work together safely. In addition, I paid particular attention to ensuring toxic chemicals, additives, and preservatives were not included in Blair + Jack.
