Canadian Short Films to Catch enRoute

Air travel makes for valuable movie-watching time. Air Canada has always exceled when it comes to in-flight entertainment, and something we particularly like about them is their inclusion of a Canadian short-film category. It gives us the chance to watch a handful of cool, independent flicks to be voted upon by the enRoute Film Festival‘s capable jurors (Don McKellar, Gia Milani and Jennifer Podemski all sit on the board choosing this year’s batch). Our picks from their recent VIFF Theatre screening? Natalie, a short animation from Oakville, is capital “w” wickedly funny in its portrayal of a blonde toddler facing off with a slithery monster. Halifax’s Twenty Eight Feet: life on a little wooden boat, follows a one man’s inspiring bid for unconventionality, narrated with such a compelling sensibility you’ll want to jump ship for the sea life, too. Toronto’s Afternoon sees young actors with palpable chemistry skillfully capturing high-school student awkwardness and magnetism.
