This Lux Loungewear Brand Is All You’ll Want To Wear (Win!)

We’re all very into active- and loungewear at this point, right? Right. So we’re happy more and more local designers are entering the space (and our closets). Monhnny, founded in Vancouver by sisters Maya and Maggy Omrani, offers luxe options when it comes to activewear and loungey clothes, with pieces we’re loving lunging and lazing about in. We chatted with the siblings to learn more. —Vita Daily

Hi Maya and Maggy! Please tell us a bit about yourselves/your backgrounds to start.

We moved to Canada from Iran seven years ago. We started our fitness journey back in high school because it made us feel seen and wanted back then due to being outsiders. And now fitness is part of our lifestyle and it has impacted us in so many ways. Maya has a degree in fashion design technology and Maggy is doing her undergrad for science. Monhnny builds on our passion for fitness and fashion.

When and why did you launch Monhnny?

Monhnny was created on a spring 2020 night while we were laying on our bed, complaining about how unmotivated we felt to workout due to the pandemic and gyms being closed. We hated the feeling of plasticky leggings touching our skin when we must work out at home, and we just didn’t want to wear PJs to work out because that is not motivating. So we came up with our own perfect set.

What niche were/are you aiming to fill?

To provide long-lasting locally designed and manufactured products that are both stylish and comfortable. Monhnny started from redesigning a few secondhand pieces at home and grew into a new local brand that creates comfortable and versatile pieces while focusing on sustainability, transparent pricing and local manufacturing. We believe slow fashion can look sexy on you!

What products do you currently offer, and what makes them unique?

Tops, bottoms, some outerwear and sport bras. There are many elements that make MONHNNY pieces unique. We are all about slow fashion, meaning each piece is made in a small batch; in that way there is less fabric waste. Each piece is designed and made in Vancouver; our sport bras are handmade and made to order. Each piece is tested on functionality and comfort before production.

What’s the difference between your Lux and Fumfy collections?

Fumfy is our functional + comfy collection. Transition throughout your day with these pieces. This collection is all made from natural fibre blends such as cotton, Tencel and Modal. There is no harmful chemical in the process. Lux pieces are made from recycled polyester from post-consumer plastic waste including plastic bottles that have been diverted from landfills. The material is anti-bacterial and sweat wicking. This is our most versatile and flattering collection.

What one Monhnny piece will you be rocking this winter, and why?

We will be rocking in All In One Joggers because they are so flattering, comfy and warm, as well as our Lux Collection pieces, perfect for the gym and running errands!
