Hi Tasha! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.

I’ve been a stylist for 16 years and a Redken artist for 14. My goal as an artist is to always share things that can be done immediately behind the chair in real salon time. I love helping the stylists to have a better understanding of hair colour and how they can grow using different techniques/methods in the salon while maintaining the health of the hair at the same time.

We’re so excited about Redken’s Color Gels Lacquers 10 Minute launch; can you tell us more about this product/service, and why it’s a hair-colour game-changer?

The Color Gels Lacquers 10 Minute launch is a colour that will provide 100 per cent grey coverage in 10 minutes. This is an amazing opportunity for the stylist as they can get more people in and out in less time. It’s also a great option for guests to come in for quicker maintenance appointments if need be in-between their regular appointments.

For this new in-salon treatment, what is the process like, from start to finish? (We hear it takes under an hour; why is it referred to as 10 Minute?)

The great thing about this colour is that it is a liquid formula so it can be applied in a bottle, which will provide a faster application, and then the colour uses fast kinetic dyes that only have to process for 10 minutes (hence the name), whereas your traditional permanent colour lines typically process for 30 to 45 minutes. After the 10 minutes, the stylist would rinse, shampoo, condition then do a cut if needed and a blowout. This whole process should take no longer than an hour.

Besides being a time saver, what other benefits will we gain from Redken’s Color Gels Lacquers 10 Minute?

The Color Gels Lacquers 10 minute also features a smart pause technology, which helps prevent over processing should the colour sit on longer than 10 minutes and is a 1:1 match with our current Gels Lacquers, so there won’t be any banding should you alternate between the two. The stylist also has the opportunity to offer a guest who may be booked just for a haircut this add-on colour where it only processes for 10 minute, truly allowing them to “squeeze in” an additional colour service. The finish of the colour also gives a beautiful lacquer shine that our clients know and love from our current Gels Lacquers.

Final question (please put yourself in the client’s shoes for a moment): what do you like to do while getting your hair done? Are you a multitasker? Do you chat with your stylist?

I’m a total multitasker for the most part so I like to respond to emails, do some social media work but I also really like chatting with my stylist—so I guess I do a little bit of both. However, once my head hits that shampoo bowl, phone is down, eyes closed and I try to soak up every single minute, lol!
