Shop Local Often & Win!

January 12, 2022

Now, more than ever, shopping local is vital to help keep Canada’s small businesses afloat, and there’s a new campaign (it’s a contest!) in Vancouver to help the cause.

The new Shop Local Often city-wide campaign, hosted by 22 Business Improvement Associations and supported by the BC Chamber of Commerce, invites us all to follow along, on Instagram, @shoplocaloftenvancouver, to learn more, spread the word and for a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree at your fave local spot! Launched on January 1 and continuing until February 13, participating neighbourhoods include Marpole, Gastown, Chinatown, Downtown, Collingwood, Cambie Village, Dunbar Village, Sunset on Fraser, Commercial Drive, Hastings Crossing, Point Grey Village, South Granville, West Broadway, Victoria Drive, Robson Street, East Village, Strathcona, Kerrisdale, West 4th, West End and Yaletown (phew!). Some of our fave facts about the benefits of shopping local, often, include:

  • Keeping dollars close to home will stimulate the community, create more jobs and strengthen the economic base of the city.
  • When people shop in brick-and-mortar stores, the purchase has 107 times the impact of an online purchase.
  • Shopping local helps reduce the greenhouse gas impacts of your purchase.
  • Shopping local at this time is essential to keep the entrepreneurs in our community supported.

So, the next time you’re in a local shop (and we hope that’s soon!), snap a photo or take a video and share your local product picks to be featured (and entered to win; visit @shoplocaloftenvancouver for entry rules and details)! —Vita Daily
