It’s hard to nab a table at Kerrisdale’s new Pizzeria Bufala but, when you do, you’ll notice something crucial: they facilitate your access to some pretty amazing food.
The latest from the team behind Gastown’s Wildebeest, Bufala (get it?) is a homey-but-elegant take on Italian cuisine. Starters and share plates shine. Try the sausage and Humboldt squid ($12)—an unusual pairing tumbling over a colourful chopped salad of eggplant, fennel and pepper.
Arugula and grapefruit salad ($11) is light and peppery, while the kale Caesar ($11) comes with thick slices of house-smoked bacon. Burrata with veal tongue is a melt-in-your-mouth must-try ($14), and we also liked the Finocchiona pizza ($15), which aligns fennel sausage, castelvetrano olives and caramelized onions ‘neath generous smoked provolone, plus a side of infused oils (parmesan and smoked ham join the usual chili).
Family-friendly and lively, here’s a herd you’ll want to join. —Adrienne Matei
