One of Japan’s most famous fruits is coming to Metro Vancouver next week. Aburi Market, Aburi Restaurants Canada’s first premium Japanese grocery concept, will have a very limited number of Hokkaido Furano Melons available for purchase, starting Thursday, July 21, 2022. The melons are renowned for its perfect shape, sweet nectar taste, and beautiful mesh patterned exterior.
Japan is known for producing some of the world’s most exquisite and perfectly-shaped fruits. Premium fruits are part of the country’s gift-giving culture, and farmers are honoured for their hard work and dedication to each crop they create. The Hokkaido Furano Melon, which most closely resembles a cantaloupe, is grown in Furano City, an area boasting the most ideal climate for growing melons.
“We are happy to introduce my favourite melon to Canada,” says Seigo Nakamura, founder and CEO of Aburi Restaurants Canada. “This melon is super sweet—sweeter than most other brands of Japanese melons. I recommend people to taste it with a spoon first – it’s smooth, juicy, and flavourful. This is the season for the melon, and we hope to freshly import more to Vancouver this summer.”
The Hokkaido Furano Melon will be $100 each, packaged in a melon gift box, and available on a first come, first serve basis. Once sliced into, this special melon has a distinct jewel-like glowing orange flesh. The taste is characterized by its firm sweetness and softness, with a higher-than-average sugar content of 15 plus degrees.
“Farmers started growing the Furano Melon 52 years ago, and is a brand as famous as another Hokkaido speciality, the Yubari King Melon,” adds Seigo. “Furano Melons are rated in order of excellence – Shu, Yu, or Ryo. Our melons are Shu, which translates to ‘supreme’ and are top of the line Furano Melons.” —Vita Daily
