Today is National Shiraz Day! Here Are 4 Worth Celebrating

July 28, 2022

Even white-wine lovers can be converted with a good Shiraz, as it’s everything a red wine should be. Smooth, easy sipping, velvety and plays nicely with others. Easy to pair with all kinds of your favourite summer foods, too! Here are four bottles we are loving—especially today. —Catherine Dunwoody

Australia is well known for its stellar Shiraz, and Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is one that tops many of our lists; the value for the price is exceptional. Soft cassis scent, solid fruit and oak notes, this beauty is perfectly paired with a sizzling grilled steak or lamb chops.

Wakefield Clare Valley Shiraz 2017 has slightly spicy, coffee-bean notes that play off the deep red-fruit flavours. The result: a medium-bodied wine that holds its own paired with grilled tuna, pork and burgers.

Peter Lehmann’s The Barossan Shiraz is full bodied and very smooth, with red berries and plum notes. Delish today or any day with grilled sausages and kebabs.

Yellow Tail Shiraz is a super-affordable Aussie favourite now made by the sixth generation of the Casella family. Smooth with hints of juicy red berries and spice, a glass of this Shiraz is nice alongside grilled vegetable pastas.
