9 White Wines To Sip On National White Wine Day

August 3, 2022

Is there a more versatile drink than white wine? Sipped as a cocktail, paired with that perfect dinner or enjoyed after a meal with great company and conversation, white wine, with many varieties to choose from, offers everyone a favourite. Here are nine we particularly love, to celebrate with on August 4, National White Wine. —Catherine Dunwoody and Noa Nichol

Château Ste. Michelle Chardonnay is a favourite from Seattle, boasting ripe citrus and apple notes without being over-oaky. Summer pair it with a Cobb salad for a fancy patio lunch, or a lobster dinner.

Aveleda Fonte White is a crisp blend from the Vinho Verde region in Portugal, with notes of green apple and lime. Slightly fizzy and refreshing (especially in summer), we love it with fish cakes or curries.

Mission Hill 2021 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is a fresh, fruity white from Kelowna that pairs beautifully with a seafood salad or cheese platter.

CedarCreek Pinot Gris has all the orchard notes you’d expect from this Okanagan winery, with lots of pear and a hint of spice. We love it with grilled fish. Bonus: WineAlign just awarded CedarCreek with Winery of the Year for 2022.

Chronos Riesling from Time Family of Wines is a dry Riesling with hints of honey-crisp apple and citrus. Holds up to beef carpaccio or halibut with orange-miso sauce.

Singletree Gruner Veltliner 2020 is a refreshing white with aromas of nectarine, pineapple, and Meyer lemon. With only 111 cases produced by the winery in Abbotsford, get it while you can.

Rodney Strong Chardonnay displays aromas of lemon curd and apple with hints of toasty oak and baking spices. We’ve been enjoying this white with grilled asparagus, seared tuna with a mango-avocado salsa or an apple and brie grilled cheese.

Mer Soleil Reserve Chardonnay boasts a rich, buttery mouth feel and carries flavours of peach, pineapple, citrus and some nice oak spices. It’s a big Chardonnay with all the trimmings.

Bourgogne Chardonnay Louis Latour offers on the nose a floral bouquet with a hint of honeysuckle. The palate is round with white fruits and fresh almond aromas. Pair it with mild soft cheeses, mushroom risotto or poached salmon.
