A Not Too “Holiday” Holiday Playlist

December 1, 2014

The antidote: a collection of palate-cleansing tunes perfect for bone-chill December days spent burning candles and baking biscotti, and dark nights warmed by dinner parties with friends.

Enjoy. —Adrienne Matei

The Weakerthans—Sun In An Empty Room: A track for bright, sunny-cold days.Death Cab for Cutie—Christmas (Baby Please Come Home): We can only take Christmas tunes with a dose of Death Cab.A.C. Newman—Encyclopedia of Classic Takedowns: If “encyclopedia of classic takedowns” doesn’t remind you of your family gatherings, then congratulations on your family gatherings.Sylvan Esso —Coffee: Nothing beats hot coffee in the cold.Radiohead—Fake Plastic Trees: The perfect encapsulation of dreamy seasonal melancholy.Milky Chance —Sweet Sun: Shoulder dance to this while folding ground cloves into cookie dough.Foxygen—Shuggie: For when all you want for Christmas is retro paisley grooviness.Coeur de Pirate—Ava: A little adorable shoo-wop beat to put on when the wine’s mulling…The Preatures—Is This How You Feel?: …and a dance tune for when the mulled wine kicks in.Yelle—Complètement Fou: Holiday sentiments sound so much more refined in French.
