The best part of autumn? With all due respect to sweater weather, it’s the food. Roasted everything. Savoury flavours and comforting favourites. Closing down the outdoor grill and turning on the oven normally sounds lovely—except for the heat wave we’re having. So this year we give thanks for keeping the kitchen cool with these take-out Thanksgiving meals, from our favourite local eateries. —Catherine Dunwoody
Blue Hat Bakery-Café at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts is offering a sumptuous feast of roast turkey breast, mash and gravy, herb stuffing, brussel sprouts with grapes, roasted sugar cinnamon baby carrots, orange-bourbon cranberry sauce, brioche pull apart rolls and more, for those who don’t want to mess with the classics.
If you are feeling adventurous, how about a Southeast Asian spin on the traditional meal? Potluck Hawker Eatery’s fried chicken Thanksgiving meal set is a multi-course feast including a whole coconut milk fried chicken, salted egg yolk polenta, candied yams, and longganisa XO sauce milk bread stuffing. Serves four.
Just want a grab ‘n go treat to eat on the run? Beaucoup Bakery has a brand-new pastry, the holiday stuffing croissant. Oh yes. Exactly as delicious as we expected.
One might not think of The Sandbar for Thanksgiving, but this seafood restaurant has nailed it with a menu starting with a fall beet and orange salad, butternut squash soup, roast turkey with traditional sides, and pumpkin pot de cremé with allspice chantilly whip.
Filipino favourite Goldilocks Bake Shop has two meal options. The first includes embotido, a pork meatloaf with pancit palabok rice noodles, vegetarian spring rolls, BBQ chicken skewers, and either pan de leche (Hawaiian-style rolls) or 6” cheese loaf (pull apart loaf filled with whipped cream cheese). Second choice? Also embotido but this time paired with tocino fried rice, chicken skewers, empanadas, and the same bread options. Don’t forget to choose dessert, like the ube royal cake.

I will be making Thanksgiving dinner. I’ll be making turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes with turkey gravy, and haven’t decided on the veggie yet. For the kids the favorites is creamed corn but I like squash so may make two dishes for veggies. I will be buying the pumpkin pie though.
