5 1990s-Inspired Jewelry Pieces

October 25, 2022

What’s old is new again, and this couldn’t be more true of jewelry. Trends from the 1990s, including thick chains, neon colours and tasteful customization, are back and bigger than ever. If you want to stay stylishly on trend this season, be sure to accessorize with a few ’90s-inspired jewelry pieces. —Jennifer Cox

Remember those personalized name necklaces everyone loved (partly thanks to Carrie on Sex and the City)?! The Belle Custom Name Necklace from Oak and Luna ($115) comes in seven beautiful finishes and uses a sophisticated script font. Get your name done or a special word – you can customize it to anything you want.

Juicy Couture’s gold Heart Pendant Bracelet ($30) is a signature chain necklace featuring a heart-shaped logo with a toggle clasp. We love the heaviness of it—it’s so awesomely reminiscent of overstated jewellery from the 90s. It comes in gold and silver, and there are lots of matching pieces like necklaces, earrings, and cuff bracelets too.

Hoops are back and more chic than ever, like the Diamond Hoop Earrings by Elsa Peretti ($3400, available at Tiffany & Co.). They are made from 18k gold and feature brilliant round diamonds. They’ll amplify any look in an elegant retro way.

When you think of the colours of the 90s, you see the tie-dye effects everyone was putting everywhere. This is the Pandora ME Tie-dye Styling Round Connector ($45), which can be added to one of their chunky chain-link bracelets for added colour and pizzazz. Made from sterling silver, this connector features grooved lines beneath transparent enamel in a gradient splash of yellow, purple, and turquoise.

Celestial décor and fashion were all the rage in the 1990s, and this LA Dôme Ring ($700) from Mejuri pays homage to this dreamy trend. It is handcrafted in 14k yellow gold and set with five high-quality diamonds. And, as an added plus, it’s made from recycled gold to help reduce its environmental impact.
