Essential Raingear Roundup 2022

November 28, 2022

While the weather might seem touch and go on the west coast at the moment, we Vancouverites know better. No matter how clear the skies seem, at any moment it could start pouring cats and dogs. Below are some of our choice picks for braving the rain. —Vicki Duong

alder apparel. Downpours may make our adventures a bit more wet but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the great outdoors. Sustainably and ethically made Alder Apparel’s Take A Hike Cargo Pants ($218) has made taking on any weather a breeze. Available in sizes XS to 6X, this inclusive designed cargos are made with water resistant recycled materials with eight pockets to stash all of your essentials.

on. When it comes to rainfall, no item of clothing is as recommended as a good rain jacket. We’ve been loving the On Storm Jacket ($550), a planet-friendly and fully seam-sealed waterproof jacket. The lightweight design makes it ideal for on-the-go while an adjustable hood and cuffs allows for a customized fit.

columbia. Puddles have nothing on you when you have a good pair of rain boots. The Mortiza Boot ($160) from Columbia combines the classic look of a leather Chelsea boot while the fully waterproof construction adds functionality to every stride you take. Plus the boot is lined with Columbia’s Omni-Heat technology which utilizes reflective gold dots to retain body heat without sacrificing breathability.

outdoor research. While a hat is no substitute for an umbrella, sometimes headwear is the way to go to keep yourself hands-free. For a packable option, the Outdoor Research full brim hat ($65 at MEC) is a no brainer for us. With a removable chin cord and cordlock, this hat sits securely on your head even during the worst rainfalls while the wide brim keeps your face dry and visibility clear.

adhere to studios. For the days where the forecast is a bit more than lightly misting, we opt for something designed for warmth as well as for water-repellency. The puffer ($580) from Adhere to Studios is a new fave in our rotation. The puffer is filled with recycled down and feathers while the inner collar and pockets are lined with fleece for additional warmth.
