As Christmas approaches, Pinboards explode with breathtaking DIY endeavours that inspire us to get our craft on. But, with time (and money) at a premium, quick and easy are key to crafting during the holidays. Try these 3 simple, low-cost projects to make your space a little more merry and bright!
Glitter Reindeer Wall Art: Buy an 8×10 canvas from the dollar store, white glue, a thin and thick watercolour paintbrush and gold glitter. Look online for an image of a reindeer or other snowy woodland creature and, with a pencil, lightly sketch it out on the blank canvas. Fill your sketch in with glue (via paintbrush) and liberally apply the glitter. Let your masterpiece sit for a few before shaking off the excess sparkle. Hang and admire your work.
Jingle Bell Garland: While at the dollar store, pick up a package of bells (a variety of colours, textures and sizes is nice) and jute twine. Tie the bells onto the twine with a simple knot and hang in a window or drape along your mantle. We recommend letting a string dangle within reach of passersby; no one will be able to resist giving it a merry shake.
Holiday Sparkle Candle Holders: Nothing sets a cosy atmosphere for a holiday gathering better than the soft glow of candles. Take several empty glass jars (baby food jars are perfect) and, using plain white glue, paint stripes, snowflakes or a chevron pattern on each one. Sprinkle gold, silver, red or green glitter onto the glue and let dry. Shake away the excess and there you have it: perfect holiday tea light holders.
Turn on a Christmas jingle and, before you can say jangle, your brilliant project will be complete! —Michelle Gadd
