Chunky loafers are back and cooler than ever! With a unique throwback look, they really become the centrepiece of any look. Dress ’em up or dress ’em down—whatever style you’re going for, it will look extra when donning a pair of chunky loafers. Here are five of our faves. —Jennifer Cox
The Agathea Chunky Loafer from Reformation ($380) is a platform loafer with classic penny loafer details. It has a cool chunky leather lug sole as well as moc-stitching, but with a more modern silhouette. It’s available in eight righteous colours and designs.
Dr. Martens’ Adrian Smooth Leather Tassel Loafers ($180) rolled off the production line in the 1970s, fusing mod-like smartness with DM’s renowned level of durability. Hardwearing and famously tough, these loafers have a quality smooth leather upper and iconic slip-on design. The leather can be polished to shine or get scuffed up – it’s all about the finish you want.
We love the cool detailing on the Parker Studded Leather and Logo Loafer from Michael Kors ($228). The leather and Signature-print canvas shoe is adorned with polished studs and Empire hardware, and features rubber tread soles for added traction and a subtle lift. It’s a stylish option for the office but will look just as chic on days off.
For something a bit more naturally-hued there’s the Steve Madden Lawrence Natural Multi ($130). Supported by an extra-chunky lug sole, this chunky loafer has both rugged durability and chic ’90s vibes. Sport this slip-on with a plaid schoolgirl skirt or a traditional V-neck sweater to play-up its preppy roots.
For uber-chunky vibes, turn to Aldo Shoes’ Bigshow loafer ($98). It features a shiny leather upper with a super thick and edgy rubber sole. Despite its bulk, they’re surprisingly lightweight and have been specially crafted for comfy all-day wear.
