These Quick-Hit Videos Will Teach You A Thing Or Two About Sustainability In Fashion

February 3, 2023

Accountability is everything, even in the world of style. Fashion Takes Action (FTA) and RCGD Global joined forces to create an educational video series about key sustainability issues in fashion. The program recently rolled out in elementary schools right up to the post-secondary level across Canada, the U.S., Europe and Asia, called Fashion Impacts 101.

The six-part educational video series was made for teachers and students, and most certainly should be watched by anyone in the fashion industry. Each video is short, between five to eight minutes long, so easily digestible and ripe for discussion. Video titles include Introduction to Sustainable Fashion; Fashion’s Waste Problem; How Much Pollution are you Wearing?; The Secret Lives of Clothes; How to Design Sustainably; and Who is Responsible for Changing the Fashion System.

Kelly Drennan, founding executive director of Fashion Takes Action, and Samata Pattinson, CEO of RCGD Global, lead these educational videos and are joined in each episode by guest contributors—a mix of industry experts, advocates and celebs who are on their own journey of sustainability. Watch for designer and activist Nikki Reed, Anishinaabe Indigenous rights advocate Autumn Peltier and others.

My Clothes My World program launched back in 2014, and ever since the FTA has been educating students in grades 4 to 12; to date, their series of workshops have been delivered to an impressive 32,000 students across Canada. Starting the environmental shift with students seems like a hopeful idea indeed. —Catherine Dunwoody
