My husband and I got an invitation to an exclusive Champagne dinner in San Fran in a private home—something even I, with all my willpower (ahem) could not pass up. (No pics, sorry, it was a social media-free zone.) Even better than the Krug, it was also a chance to spend a day with my bestie of 30-plus years, Megan.
I’ll soon have earned my welcome bonus points on my new Scotiabank Gold American Express Credit Card. Worth $200 in travel, they’ll show up on my next statement after I spend at least $500 in the first 90 days, according to the nice lady I spoke to at Scotia Rewards. That shouldn’t be difficult since Megan and I are professionals when it comes to shopping and going out. Perfect since my Scotiabank Gold Amex gives me four times the points on categories like dining and entertainment (as well as everyday essentials like gas and groceries).
Heath Ceramics in Sausolito, just over the Golden Gate Bridge, is a foodie pilgrimage, especially their factory store where you can get the same plateware as Chez Panisse for 30 per cent off. We also discovered a back shelf with seconds and thirds for as much as 75 per cent off, so I stocked up on dinner plates and soup bowls to have shipped home.
After consulting a resident foodie, we settled on lunch at a casual spot called Fish, walking distance from Heath, right on the water. Check out our oysters and clam chowder: yum!
After 24 hours it was time to hop back on the plane to Vancouver, while my husband jetted off to Palm Springs. I’ll join him in my next installment—see you then! — Sarah Bancroft
