An unlikely partnership has happened in our fair province—so colour us blue and super intrigued. The BC Blueberry Council and Winegrowers of British Columbia have collaborated on a new campaign that shows us how delicious local blueberries are an ideal food pairing with our fabulous B.C. wines. Sound a little weird? Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it. We did. And minds blown!
With the shared goal to have people champion home-grown goods, this collaboration also aims to boost local communities and small B.C. businesses: the farmers, winemakers and other producers who bring these two “best of B.C.” products to the public. The resulting collection of recipes features turkey blueberry burgers paired with Pinot Noir and pork tacos with blueberry pineapple salsa playing nicely with Chardonnay. And the blueberries can be either fresh or frozen! Just make sure you see B.C. on any labelling to ensure you are getting our real-deal local bounty.
As well, award-winning cookbook author Jennifer Schell has put together a special BC blueberry dessert from frozen BC blueberries with the perfect BC VQA wine pairing. Match made in heaven! And the blueberry on top? A fabulous spring giveaway this March, which will see two winners receive gifts valued at $450 (think a signed cookbook, syrup, candy, cool blueberry swag and more)!
